There is a reason why so many are disenfranchised with reading. Too many books use too many flowery word and unrealistic dialogue. To the other extreme, some books are just so dumb and almost simplistic. But I promise if you read The Fix: Fix in Overtime by Tony DiGerolamo you will rediscover the beauty of literacy.
The author, who has written jokes for Politically Incorrect, two screenplays and two comic book series, has parlayed his success into a book I couldn't put down. It is a hip, interesting, and exciting story that is definitely worth the read. The most powerful substance in the universe, and the world's worst detective. Tonight, the Earth will be invaded, and the only guy that can save you still lives with his parents. What a description! How could you not give it a try?
While this was interesting book, it is one of the strangest books I have ever read. The Fix read like a screenplay and I could picture all the action about to go down. To help me out, the book actually starts and ends with a comic book, so I have pictures to go along with the action. After a few pages, the book goes into its' novel transformation, but the pictures stay in my head. What a novel idea?!
Then there is the really smart approach of dedicating each chapter to one person's point of view. So, in one chapter, Mark the main character and private investigator, gets his say and in the next chapter, his girlfriend, Mindy, presents her point of view across. This is so cool and further lends to the idea that this book is more like a screenplay for some movie and what a movie that would turn out to be.
The Fix is a fun read, but like I said before, it is also a strange one. This book has so many weird twists, turns and whacked out characters in it that a whole series could come from it (Did I mention the fact that The Fix will be a comic book in the future?). This is not just a book about a PI battling aliens. That would be strange enough. We are also treated to cybernetically advanced cops, super-powered thugs who protect the world, and the Son of Thor, a god, who just happens to own a beauty salon. The Son of Thor, or Sven, is a friend to Mark, the PI who drinks a strange green substance that gives him new powers. He can see the past, see through things, shoot projectiles from his fingertips and more. In addition to all this, aliens are attacking the Earth and can transform into any person, or creature they choose to turn into. Of course, they choose to turn into football stars from the past and present. Makes sense to me.
The characters interact with each other in a realistic manner. They talk and joke around like you and me, even interrupting each other by saying things not even pertaining to the real issue at...
