Video Game Credits

By: Badseed

The video game world is filled with a whole lot of news and in BANDWIDTH's continuing efforts to keep people informed, we present you with our latest column, known as Video Game Credits, a quick look at the world of gaming a through the eyes of Badseed.

PS One the Next Game Boy

Now that the first Playstation (PS) unit has been minaturized, complete with a digital screen, the PS One is actually Sony's answer to the Game Boy. There is still some life in the PS system as new games are constantly being created, despite the fact that PS2 is the hottest game in all history. Twisted Metal: Black is coming out for both systems. Some sports games are also getting the dual treatment. EA Sports plans to release Madden NFL 2002, NASCAR 2002, and FIFA 2002. There is even talk that Sega will release some old Saturn hits for the PS One and sell the games for the low price of $9.99.

This is the greatest thing to happen to the owners of the PS Console. You don't need a PS2 to have a good time! I am happy to see that Sony still cares about those who have a limited supply of cash to spend. While I have proudly dissed Sony before, I proudly give them props.

WWF buys out WCW

The World Wrestling Federation has acquired World Championship Wrestling. What does this mean for the gaming world? Well, THQ owns the rights to publish WWF titles, and EA Sports own the rights to publish WCW titles. In fact, ECW seems to have folded into the WWF, so what does this mean, since Acclaim owned the rights to publish their games? Actually, ECW is about to shut down, and WWF is going to buy out their video collection. So I am going to assume that since they are under the WWF banner, those licenses from EA and Acclaim no longer exist. This is just an assumption on my part. I am assuming THQ will either start publishing titles for WCW (ECW no longer exists as of this writing, but may come back as a farm league for the WWF) or just publish one title with all the wrestlers from all of the WWF properties. This will enable wrestling fans to have their dream matches come true without having to create wrestlers from scratch.

You could have Booker T battle the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin battle it out with Goldberg. That is just phat. Even better would be an option to have the WWF show compete with the WCW show in terms of ratings. You pick a federation and set up the shows and see if your ratings beat the other federation's ratings. That would be cool! Then you could set up inter-federation pay-per-views. What a sale!

Game Boy Advance Heating Things Up

It is coming soon. Game Boy Advance will be available on June 11 for $99.95 with games ranging in price from $29.95 to $39.95. Have you looked at the games that are coming out? Super Mario Advance, will be released by Nintendo along with F-Zero: Maximum Velocity. ChuChu Rocket heated up the Dreamcast will now grace the smaller screen. Plus Army Men Advance, Dodge Ball Advance, Fortress, High Heat Major League Baseball 2002, Iridion 3-D, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, Rayman, Ready to Rumble Boxing: Round 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Top Gear GT Championship, Tweety and the Magic Jewel and Fire Pro Wrestling, just to name a few. In addition to all this, Nintendo has confirmed that Metroid will be released for the Game Boy Advance and will allow users to play all their old Game Boy games in addition to new ones. This is mini-console is going to be hot and if you thought that the Game Boy was something, it's time to Advance to a new era.

Sega Still Alive

Sega released the Smash Pack with games like Revenge of Shinobi, Sonic the Hedgehog, Shining Force and Sega Swirl. Now additional titles from the Genesis will make their return on the Dreamcast system. Even though the system is not going to be made anymore, it doesn't mean, cool games can't be made for it. More Smash Packs would be phat. Even if they don't come out for the Dreamcast, they could come out for the Playstation 2. Sega Saturn games may be released for the Playstation, so look out for that. Sega, the hardware company is no longer a thing to watch, but the software giant is still hot and I look forward to what Sega has to offer. Don't forget to check BANDWIDTH next month when I review the Sega Smash Pack as part of our new Blast from the Past Column, Entitled From Quarters to Consoles.
