Guess What? Badseed has gotten his Playstation 2. No, I didn't win one on some radio contest. I didn't even pay $2,000 for one on Ebay. I actually received mine in the mail! Yep, Ebworld.com sent my order to me, an order I placed right on launch date and received just after the New Year. Yes, I am happy, but I am still complaining. Sony is still on my shit list.
I walked into my house after a hard day at work and was extremely happy to see a big box in my hallway. I rushed the package upstairs, opened it up, and got my Playstation 2. That's all I got. Nothing else. Maybe I was being greedy, but I honestly felt that good business practices would cause Sony to place a little bit extra in the game box.
A good business that screws up and should smooth things with customers and give them something extra-maybe a free game? I remember when games came with the system, and for $300 and a long ass wait, and seeing as people were getting systems for free (from radio stations for instance), I think a game would have been nice touch.
If not a game, how about a Demo CD like the one distributed with the original Playstation? Instead, I got a card to fill out to get a free demo CD. Sony knows many people forget to complete those postcards. I guess Sony, a multinational corporation, is having some problems financially? I think we shouldn't be troubled any further to fill out a card, mail it away and wait to get something to try on our new system. How long will we have to wait for that?
The system comes with two slots. Why not give us an extra controller so a friend could play? I mean, I will actually buy a game, so why not give me a reason to enjoy the system with a friend (who is probably still waiting for theirs?). Better idea, give me a memory card to save my games on? I spent an extra $150 on this damn system! I wouldn't have minded so much if I got the system on time! A damn crappy DVD would have made me say, "Wow! That was nice of them to give me. They really do care about their customers."
I could have given a nicer compliment, but no one thought of me and my frustrations as I waited for my system, while Jack Ass from Not Working and Still Living With My Mom, got his for no cost or wait at all.
Sony did not endear themselves to me as a company making up for the mistakes. Bad business practices lead to disenfranchised consumers who will play their new systems until they serve their purpose, but stick with the X-Box as it answers the consumers and their needs while everyone remembers how Sony did not. I know I will also get the X-Box and I am going to do so only because of my problems with the Playstation. That will teach Sony. I just pledged money to the enemy because of their bad practices and that is an opportunity cost they will never be able to recover. I suggest others do the same.
On a side note, Ebworld.com is not to blame at all for this. Sony is the company that supplied them with the systems and Ebworld sold them. They did their job. They did a great job, too. They sent me timely emails letting me know what was going on and how long the system would be delayed. They even let me know when my system came in to prepare me. They packed it nicely too. Great job all around. I will definitely buy my X-Box from them.
I do enjoy my Playstation 2 system and am currently playing Kessen (Read the review in this month's issue of BANDWIDTH), a really cool game, but no matter how happy I currently am, I will never forget my experience with Sony. Hope Mr. 97th caller from The Bronx can look at himself in the mirror. Cheater. Later...
