Natasha From Mars

Listen to NFM at MP3.com

By: JenniferJ

Natasha is not from Mars, nor is she Natasha. Natasha from Mars (NFM) is actually an independent bar band from Natasha From Mars Logo Copyright Natasha From Marsthe land down under-Australia. NFM was founded in 1997 by Sue Sears and Andrew Scott. NFM has been performing live all over the Australian Pub network, performing and covering various types of music.

From their three-song sampler you can tell that their music has been influenced by a variety of music acts. NFM have an amorphous sound, to the point where you can't classify them.

Water starts off with this ethnic sounding beat, then veers off into electronica sound, with a fierce guitar, and Sears singing in this harsh rock queen voice. I like the music to this song, I like the way she sings it, I am not too keen on the lyrics-but hey nothing is perfect.

Harm, the second track, sounds like the transitional pop music that was popular after the end of disco and the beginning of what we know pop today. The lyrics are cool, and the music complements them perfectly. This is one song I could see an American audience getting into.

See in my right hand a razor blade,
Do you trust me now do you have faith,
That I won't cut you down bleed you dry,
I'd rather hurt myself than see you cry

The third track Daddy is a rock song with great lyrics but the music sounds corny. Daddy is about a mother being very annoyed with her husband and kind of taking it out on her child because she does not know when he is coming home. But Sears still manages to send the song's message home.

I don't know where your daddy's gone to
I don't know when he is coming home...
No he's not mad at you, you didn't do anything wrong,
I'm sure he still love you, sometimes adults just don't get on...
Isn't it your time for bed, I'm sure it's way past eight, I will read to you instead,
Come on child it's getting late
Yeh I know that you are frightened, Yeh, I know we shouldn't fight,
Yeh, I know I makes me sad too, Yeh I know kiss good night

NFM has raw talent with a little polishing they could go places. Comments and or questions about this article can be sent to JenniferJ@ybfree.com
