This is the third DC comic I have ever brought (The Death of Superman and a Super Girl Comic were the other two), and the second I have actually read! I am not a fan of these super hero type comics. I watch their cartoons and movies and that is it. I personally feel it is time for some of the series to just end, but that is a whole other issue!

But I Harley Quinn from the cover of her first comic-Copyright DC Comicslike Harley Quinn; I watch Batman on the Cartoon Network and Kids WB and thought why not give an American mainstream comic company a try. At first I was not thrilled with the story. It was so atypical of Batman, break out of a mental institution, the Joker escaping, blah, blah, blah. But then as the story progressed I really began to get into it. My favorite part of the comic was the amusement park scenes, a la Universal Studios, where actors are dressed like the Batman series characters. This very Hollywood caricature of how the amusement parks have taken many of the beloved American comic characters and remade them into something of a corny joke, with loud costumes and geeky acting, matches much of what the average amusement park patron will experience.

That made this comic good for me was that I was familiar with the characters, Harley, The Joker, Bruce Wayne and such. I also like how the writer Karl Kessler worked in the story with Joker, and was able to separate Harley into her own criminal entity. The artwork is a lot like Harley's character, dark but always a hint of lightheartedness. What really sold me on the comic was that is was forty-eight pages! Like WOAH! More bang for my buck, and a good story can go a long way for a cheapskate like myself. I can't wait for issue two! I might actually subscribe to the series.

But I do have my reservations about the longevity of the comic. Can DC keep this up? How many stories can one possibly write about one character? Oh, wait, then again I think this series might go on forever since the US mainstream comic industry does not know how to end a series. But only time and the market will tell.
