It can be said with confidence that within the first five years of the 21st Century Hip Hop has officially become the standard for popular music.
This precedent has resulted in new variations of the genre to emerge and take center stage, in particular the rough, addictive, party reverberations of Crunk.
TVT Records, recent compilation Crunk Hits features some of the top songs of the style from 2002 to the present. Crunk Hits begins with the prominent and personable man who brought this sub-genre mainstream, producer and performer Lil Jon, to female emcees of the genre Jacki-O, Crunk Hits has over four years of hits waiting to groove the ears.
Crunk Hits could be technically called Lil Jon's Hits since he produced, co-wrote, and/or performs on more than a quarter of the CDs tracks. In fact Lil Jon opens the CD with two of chart toppers Usher's Yeah! and his own performance with his group the East Side Boys Get Low. From this point on every other track has Lil Jon's unmistakable magic touch from Ciara's Goodies, onto the Ying Yang Twins Salt Shaker, continuing with Trick Daddy's Let's Go to the upcoming star Pitbull's Toma.
By no means taking away from other famed persons of the sub-genre Crunk Classics also features infectious hits by Chingy, Three 6 Mafia, Juvenile, Nelly, Pastor Troy, T.I., Lil' Flip, Killer Mike, Khia, Young Bloodz, and 8 Ball and MJG. Much like the metal that adorns the mouths and the necks of so many of the genres celebrities Crunk Hits is platinum from commencement to conclusion.
