Playstation 2 Commentary

Badseed

Sony owes me an apology. That's right. Sony owes me, and millions of other people, an apology. We, the masses of the United States of Consumerism have been screwed royally. We have been left out of one of the biggest mainstream entertainment devices to hit our shores since the day Pong hit our living rooms. For the first time, we have a complete system that will allow us to play video games, watch DVDs, listen to CDs and eventually use the Internet, all with just one device. Of course, if you know anywhere I can get one in the US, for retail price, please let me know, cause I certainly cannot find one.

The number of Playstation 2 units that were supposed to hit stores was cut in half due to some malfunctions within the unit. So, with only half the number of units available, a mob scene was guaranteed on the day of release. This would be a shopping nightmare much in the same way the Cabbage Patch Kids were a consumer craze from hell. Sony would get major media coverage over the lack of availability. When Sony could meet the demand, there is no doubt the company will make a huge profit from the media coverage they received. Sometimes you don't want an item until you realize how much other people want it.

Now, I wasn't totally sure that Sony did this on purpose, but it is a major possibility. This idea developed in my brain more and more as time went on. It was launch day when I decided I'd pick a system up. I went online and was able to order one off of www.ebworld.com. I then received an email telling me about the shortage and how I would not receive my system until sometime in 2001. I was cool with this, knowing about the shortage and understanding the predicament. I figured I would wait patiently.

Then I was listening to Hot 97 FM, here in New York City, I heard about a special promotion. They were giving a Playstation 2 away every hour! Well, that couldn't be true! There were no more left! They wouldn't keep the system out of diehard fans that pre-ordered and waited on line, in favor for some lucky schmo who happened to be the 97th caller. But they did. Where was the system I ordered and will have to pay for? A paying customer should come first.

Well, apparently, Sony doesn't think so. Tom, Dick, Harry and I are all waiting for our system. Mike Smith from West Bubba, New York City, who has no job and still lives with his mother, won one for free. I want my system. You want your system. Where is our system? Furthermore, where is my apology? It better be a good one.

Perhaps this was some scheme to compete with Microsoft's X Box which is due out this Fall? Whatever it was, it is absolute BULL SHIT! I'm so pissed off!

Let us know if you agree. Let's start a petition. No spam remarks please. Let them know what you think. Let us know what you think as well. We'll give you a response faster...well, faster than you can get a Playstation 2. Send your comments and questions to Badseed@ybfree.com
