Dear Blue

By: Jon Minners

There are only a few groups I have reviewed that I really think have a shot at mainstream success. I mean, most independent bands I have reviewed are niche groups that are good, but are not good enough to make it on the play lists of major radio stations. One group really got me pumped and that was Bunk, a Long Island rock group. I really thought they could make it and still do. Recently, another band has gotten my attention and they have totally redefined my opinion of independent label music. These guys do not deserve to be on an independent label for long. If certain bands like the Boondock Saints, who I honestly think sucked, can get a record deal with Atlantic Records, then this new band sure deserves a record deal, a music video on TRL and more.

Pinwheel's first CD shows so much initiative that you would think they were all ready signed to a label. Nothing about this CD sounds like a demo CD, or bootleg cut. Everything about Dear Blue... is smooth and screaming for mainstream success. Pinwheel is a polished act that doesn't need anything in the way of further coaching. The band even has a producer, which makes the world of difference if you are trying to make it in the record industry. They are even in discussions with Harrington Talents about what it would take to put together a video. These guys are going places.

The CD begins with the title track called Dear Blue, which is getting play on WLIR 92.7 here in New York. This song is really nice, and reminds me of every damn ex-girlfriend who has destroyed my opinion of love. Did you ever think about what you did to me...I bet none of them did, but at least I can turn the lights down and listen to this catchy tune to remind me of the pain and trauma they caused. Oh well...

Awake is another good song, which is catchy enough to have me singing the words when the CD is not even playing. I have never done that with a song from a group that hasn't been played out by the conglomerate that is the Big MTV. Every song has me thinking where it could be played. Dear Blue could get play on 92.3 K-Rock, and even Z100 in New York. Believe is a nice ballad that could heat up the airwaves on Z100. Would you believe...if angles came and told you/ no one would ever take you away...from me? I really like this song. It really rounds out the group nicely. Every one of these songs could make it on one radio station or another.

Pinwheel includes Sal Scoca on guitar, Joe Regalubtuo on guitar and keyboards, Victor Pena on Bass, and Peter Santgada, on drums. These guys work together really well and can harmonize together, too. Scoca has a really good voice for rock. He gets you into the song and the band keeps you there with a really good sound.

Pinwheels go round and round, and nothing is going to stop this group from moving up the charts. Dear Pinwheel, did you think about what you have done to rock...Redefining the sound and keeping it alive. Request Pinwheel today.
