Bio Hunter DVD

By: Badseed

This is the first DVD I have ever gotten, and so far my experience with this breakthrough in viewing technology hasn't been soured. In fact, I am buying more anime films on DVD as we speak. This whole concept of DVD works beautifully with the whole anime genre. I mean, I can watch a movie or series in Japanese, English, Japanese with English translation, or English with the English translation. The last one may sound weird, but in an educational sense, it is quite amazing to see how direct English translation from Japanese words doesn't always match the English that comes out of these character's mouths. Gives you new insight on the whole translating process.

Well, anyway, this review is about the Bio Hunter DVD, not DVDs in general. Bio Hunter is a pretty cool flick to watch. It's like a B-movie, but only better. Anime always makes things better. A virus known as the Demon Virus attacks the human species, entering our DNA code and thus turning people into demons who have cool powers. Well, some of these demons are bad guys. In fact, most of them seem to be. Two Bio Hunters go in search of a demon ripping open young women on the streets of Tokyo and eating their livers. Pretty gruesome, but somewhat cool at the same time.

Anyway, these Bio Hunters must save a psychic who knows a lot about the Demon Virus, and his daughter before they meet fates worse than death. The Bio Hunters have a secret weapon, and that is a demon who can control his powers and turn human at will. He is actually one of the Bio Hunters and knows everything about the breed of demons he hunts after. Not only can he control the virus within him, but he can also detect it in others and destroy it as well. Still, this hunt is one that will test his own will to survive and his ability to keep the virus in check.

Bio Hunter is pretty fast paced and very enjoyable to watch. The animation is excellent, and was re-mastered for the DVD experience. There are some cool plot twists and some awesome action to bear witness to. I think this put a new spin on demon stories and is definitely worth a view. The DVD itself contains some cool extras like a look at some of the storyboard images from the film that you can click on to take you right to the scene the image depicts. Pretty neat. Also, the DVD contains website info and trailers for some of Urban Vision's other hot properties like Wild 7, Cockpit and more. Bio Hunter is an excellent Anime that while complex at times, is worth watching again, to figure it out, in whatever format you choose. You won't be confused for long, and you will totally enjoy the animated look into a bizarre world of science fiction that only Urban Vision can bring you.
