Check out Chronophonic's Music
Genre: Funk/Jazz/Hip Hop/Rock
     You are
probably wondering about the long inventory of genres listed above for the album, Footwork, by Chronophonic. How can a CD cover all of these genres? Take a listen to Chronophonic's work and you will find out!
Chronophonic is an eight-piece ensemble based in Chicago. The group consists of a four-piece rhythm section combined with a four-piece horn section, which goes a long way in explaining the unique sound of Chronophonic. Each member of the band is unique in and of himself, resulting in the band's matchless and innovative sound. Just take a look at the diverse list of musical inspirations cited by the band members: Sonic Youth, Frank Zappa, John Coltrane, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, Bob Marley, The Beatles, Frederick Chopin, Assata Shakur, and this is just a sample.
Chronophonic's latest album, Footwork, combined hip-hop, alternative rock, funk, and jazz to create a new music experience for the listener. Track three of the album, Deep Puddin' Pt. 1, started off hard and heavy, reminiscent of the beginning of every song ever by the electronic metal band Gravity Kills. But Deep Puddin' Pt. 1 does not stay within the rock genre. Instead, it floats off into a jazzy melody without missing a beat. The musical genres just flow into one another. The vocal performance behind Dom P, track number four, is - for lack of a better word - simply gorgeous. The artist's voice is reminiscent of the singers of classic love ballads. The horn section achieved ultimate status in Or Was It Something Deeper, Captain. Anyone who has listened to the band Chicago would agree that Chronophonics' horn section is on par.
Lyrically speaking, Chronophonic do not slouch, their songs contain lyrics with meaning. Songs like Bean So Hot and the title track Footwork contained poignant and timely messages about the world and the music industry. Excerpt from Bean So Hot: …A lot of artists fallen victims of the industry / that kind of shit happens way too frequently / and to me it really ain't no mystery / their finding ways to profit off your misery….
Love songs such as Dom P and Reflections of the Shadow of the Flame were well written and far from the corny sort of songs we hear on mainstream radio today.
Chronophonic's sound is so original and exclusive I do believe they have me warming up to their musical ideas. But to understand what I mean, you have to check out Footwork. Currently music from the album is being broadcasted on over 130 different radio stations, 23 of which have actually charted the album. Or just visit Chronophic's website and buy the album now!
