Ok, so the little deal to screw with MTV's TRL (Read Last Month's Article on Does MTV Suck?) by voting for some long ago song failed. In reality it failed miserably. But I would like to thank those who joined me in voting; your support is greatly appreciated.

     While this little experiment to see if MTV's TRL was fixed may not have worked in the way I intended, something occurred to me during those days I spent hours voting:

• How do I know how many votes I am up against?
• How can MTV claim that the viewers of TRL actually can effect the outcome of the show by voting if we, the viewers and subscribers, do not know which song has the most votes?
• How can unknown artists get their fans properly mobilized if there are no numbers to let people know where they stand?

     So I have decided in light of the Dragonball Manga Petition, to follow the lead of the child and start a petition (Read the interview with the author of this petition in this month's issue). A petition directed toward one of the most powerful men in music, as so proclaimed by Entertainment Weekly magazine, Carson Daly; and his bosses, the CEO of MTV, Tom Freston, and President of MTV, Van Toffler.

     The petition would address the issue of voting numbers. Those signing the petition are asking that Mr. Daly ask the producers of TRL to start disclosing the amount of votes each song gets online and during the day, before 3:30pm. So that fans of groups or songs know the number of votes needed to get their songs into the Top 10.

     In the petition there will also be a plea for MTV to start promoting independent artists and give them a chance to be seen by the nation. I encourage all in the music community and more importantly the fans who are sick and tired of being told what is "good" music by some marketing department to sign this petition.

     The petition will be sent electronically to TRL and by registered mail to all parties on January 3, 2001. What a way to start off the new millenium!

     NOTE: Please DO NOT SPAM this petition OR post lewd comments. This is a professional democratic outcry from the subscribers of MTV's cable network. If you want it to be a success pass it along to your friends and allow them to sign to. The only way we can make this work is by working together.
