Politic Live: Notoriety

By: Jennifer Walford

Could it be possible that the hottest Hip Hop band is not from the shores of the United States, but Edmonton, Canada? The answer simply put is...Yes! Blame Canada for the raising the bar on popular music with Politic Live.

The trio Bigga Nolte, Young Mav, and Dirt Gritie of Politic Live did what Sean P. Diddy Combs could not do with Da Band. Politic Live created the perfect Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae album that blends, represents, and should be shutting the whole game down.

Politic Live lives up to their own hype because as they say “Notoriety is like a quiet storm.” From the track Big Tings, a hot club track featuring the talent of the Reggae artist Spider, to the innovative The Epic of MC 2003, Notoriety amply displays the talent and competition this trio will be bringing to a radio near you!

Excerpt from The Epic of MC 2003: I'm the son of the man who sips Iced Tea with Ice Cubes/watching TV In the dump shack I got more Methods than the Read man on the BMX with DMX smoking Canabis

All ravings aside, Politic Live has one flaw I wish to point out; and note this flaw is not about the talent or quality of music presented on Notoriety. I am referring to the use of the Nigger. It is hypocritical to speak of the oppression that manhandled and psychologically destroyed the people forced into servitude in this hemisphere, and then to turn around and use that word (which is the epitome of that suffering) as a term of endearment. If Hip Hop performers want to call themselves socially conscious, then the use of the word Nigger, unless it is in a historical context, needs not be used in a social setting. Sorry, now back to the review…

Notoriety is no amateur outing; the professional quality and production this CD features hardly fits this meagerly packaged CD that arrived at YBFREE.com’s office. The flawless mix of guest appearances, slick mixing, smooth beats, and killer delivery was equally presented on each of the sixteen tracks. Fundamentally, certifiably, and most definitely Politic Live and their album Notoriety are more than worthy of your money, time and airplay on your local Top 40 radio station.
