When I received For Your Ears Only by Miss Lisa, I was intrigued. There are not many female DJs out there and I was eager to listen. So I popped the CD into the player and sat down to take a listen…
The first track, Spread Love, comes on strong. It starts off sounding like an electrocution – you hear the zap of electricity, as if you were lost in some Frankenstein movie. And suddenly, to coin a phrase from said movie, “It’s alive! Alive!”
For Your Ears Only was 14 tracks of slamming danceable mixes. Each track was cleverly mixed into each other, so the music never stops until the very last song was finished. DJ Miss Lisa uses familiar music to create some of her finest mixes. Songs such as Missy Elliot’s Get Your Freak On, Kiss’ Party Every Day, and Four Non-Blondes’ What’s Going On are given fresh new spins on Miss Lisa’s turntable.
I started off listening to this CD while seated in front of my computer. But that was not how I finished listening to it. Oh no! I just could not sit still while listening to For Your Ears Only. I was up and dancing around before long. I challenge anyone to sit perfectly still when surrounded by mixes that practically scream, “Dance to me!!”
For Your Ears Only is definitely a hit! Miss Lisa is one hell of a DJ. Lyrics from the second track of the CD, Move Over, sum it up quite nicely: Attack the dance floor / Like a bulldozer / Those who came to stand / Move over! Any CD that can make me jump out of my seat and start dancing around the room is a definite keeper!
