Kaila: Self-Titled CD

By: Talon Karrde

Who is Kaila Yu? She is a sexy triple threat: model/actress/singer, who started her entertainment career modeling for Playboy. She then moved on to the big and small screens on both sides of the Pacific. Kaila appeared in Dark Blue (starring Kurt Russell and Scott Speedman), and co-starred in Jade Buddha, a Mandarin-language (Chinese) soap opera. After conquering those feats Kaila decided to focus her attention on recording her first full-length album, entitled simply Kaila.

Kaila is a collection of club mixes that gets your body moving. Once I popped this CD into the player, I could not sit still! The tracks on Kaila are fresh and each one brings something new to the genre.

Kaila's voice is suitable for the dance genre, while not the strongest, her vocals lend a classic sound to a genre that is long overdue for a mainstream comeback. Adding to the album’s flavor were the rap solos by artists such as Mr. Re (What I Want), Tek-nique (Just A Dream), Ramone (Whatcha Gonna Do), and Mimi (It’s All About Me). Each individual style provided a flavor to this album that gave it a special edge, which made the listening experience more enjoyable.

My biggest complaint for the whole album was the remix of Don’t Say Goodbye. The music mix was great, but not suited for the lyrics or Kaila’s voice. The music simply overpowered her voice.

All in all, Kaila’s CD was good, and I am looking forward to the next release by this very talented performer.
