Ari Gold is a resident New Yorker, born and raised in the Bronx. He began his career very young, singing jingles for commercials, and back-up vocals for Diana Ross and the cartoon series Jem and the Holograms. Building a following in his hometown by playing at local hotspots, Gold soon took his show on the road, touring Kansas City, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Milan, London, Israel, and San Francisco.
Gold released a self-titled debut CD to rave reviews in 2001. Since that debut release, Gold has become a sought after commodity, gaining the attention of song writer Desmond Child, resulting in a collaboration that debuted in the top 20 in the UK pop charts and a top 10 dance hit.
Ari Gold's voice is nothing new. He reminds me of the ‘90’s singing sensation TKA. What makes Ari Gold different are his lyrics. His lyrics are explicit and controversial to some, featuring something that the R&B genre has never heard before – love songs sung by a man to a man.
Space Under the Sun is no exception to this rule. Although at times, the lyrics could be written about anyone for anyone, there are certain tracks definitely containing homosexual references and undertones. One such song, He’s On My Team, describes how Gold can tell whether the guy he and his friend are checking out is straight or gay. Ari Gold’s video for track 10, Wave of You, features both homosexual and heterosexual couplings.
Gold definitely adds a new twist to a sometimes played out genre. The music backing his lyrics is suitable for any dance club. The lyrics are thoughtful and well written and Ari Gold’s voice is clear and true, a quality that made TKA such a popular group back in the day.
I enjoyed listening to Space Under the Sun and wish Ari Gold, fellow New Yorker and Bronxite, the best of success. This is a star to watch.
