Jocelyn Enriquez and I have a long history together. Well, not really, but back in the 90’s, her song Do You Miss Me, was probably
the only song that actually led me to go out and purchase a CD filled with 20 different versions of the same track. I never heard of such a thing, but there I was purchasing the CD, because it so reminded me of my situation with my ex-girlfriend, that I found it refreshingly depressing enough to listen to over and over again. If I was going to do that, then why not listen to it over and over again through different mixes. That one song made me a fan of Jocelyn’s and despite only hearing one other song from her that I liked, A Little Bit of Ecstasy; I anxiously awaited another high profile showing. Although she disappeared from the scene for several years, she is back with a new CD, definitely worth taking note of.
The first Filipino-American to become a smash mainstream success in the United States, Enriquez shows with her latest CD, that it was definitely not a fluke. Returning are the fast paced, up tempo beats combined with the upbeat lyrics and infectious lyrics that made Do You Miss Me such a hit. There are also some very well done ballads here, the kind you just sit back and reflect to. Yes, Jocelyn has depressed me once more. Most of the tracks deal with love in some function and there is more of a mainstream sound to this CD, but it is all good, a solid outing worth listening to from start to finish. This CD has a lot of energy and you can’t help but get caught up in it all.
The CD starts with the title track All My Life and this is just a great song, almost like a total reversal of Do You Miss Me. This song is more about letting the significant other know that they did not mean as much as he or she thought they did. Every night on my own/I have been waiting/believing that you make my life complete/Now is the moment/to tell you its over/cause you don’t deserve me, so go out and leave/It’s over now/can’t you see/that you are not the one for me…So, baby/it’s over now/so take your key/I don’t need you anymore/All my life/How could I let you get into my heart/All my life/I know that without you/I will survive.
It's a great song that empowers people, gives them hope that they don’t have to remain in a wasted relationship, because they don’t think they can make it with anyone else. The beats are great and I love the way they play with Enriquez’s voice when she sings the title of the song. This is a good way to get your head bobbing at the beginning of the CD and it doesn’t end there.
No Way, No How is more of an upbeat love song where the singer actually loves the person she is with. I thank the stars above for guiding you home/now I am never letting you go/No way, no how/Will I ever change my mind/and say goodbye/I know that I have finally found what I’ve been waiting for/Right here, right now/beyond a shadow of a doubt/I know that you’re the one/And I’ll never leave your side/No way, no how. This is just a very catchy chorus and really shows off Jocelyn’s gift for infectious melodies and hooks.
It's No Wonder is an old school type dance track, very reminiscent of something that Paula Abdul would come up with. The song is bubbly and fun and just like the others, very catchy. The lyrics work well with the beats; the two play off each other very well. It’s no wonder/when he steps out/the birds start singing/away go the clouds/It’s no wonder/that when he smiles/it’s seems the whole world gathers round/it’s no wonder I love being his girl. Very nice song and it maintains her track record of fun hits. The first three songs on the CD really set the pace.
There are some other great songs on this CD. Miracles is a great ballad, Take My Hand and Your Touch are great disco-style tracks to take you back to the 70’s and Make Me an Angel is a great trance song. Faith, Hope and Prayer is my favorite ballad on the track, taking advantage of Jocelyn’s well schooled voice and adding the nice touch of a choir toward the middle to round it all out. Truly superb, ending the CD very nicely.
In total All My Life is the perfect re-entry CD for Jocelyn. If you are any kind of music fan you will go out and buy this CD today! I promise you will not be disappointed!
