Arcade Gamer Fubuki

By: Badseed

Arcade Gamer Fubuki made me just my head in confusion and disbelief because I can’t believe I watched Arcade Gamer Fubuki. To put it nicely it made my head hurt, but I am not going to give it a bad review. I can’t. This anime brought in a captive audience who made fun of the story, but never strayed too far away from the television. It captured their attention and that is always a good thing.

The story surrounds Fubuki Sakuragasaki who is on the verge of winning the Olympics of Video Games, a worldwide video games tournament held every four years. However, for some reason, the evil Gulasic Group and its four lords stand or attempt to stand in her way of video game dominance. That evil will have to overcome one of the greatest powers in Fubuki’s arsenal, the world’s renowned power of the Passion Panties. Oh yeah, you heard me right!

Despite the absurdity of it all, Arcade Gamer Fubuki is just so out there so corny that it is actually downright hilarious. Besides the fact that she wears panties that enable her to play video games better. Then there is the masked Mr. Mystery who is a joke. An expert gamer with a lot of power, he often makes powerful entrances (dressed as a pro wrestler) that end up doing some kind of damage to his body, like when he crashes through the window of Fubuki’s home and nearly bleeds to death, while trying to offer her moral support. His off the wall antics, combined with his noble mission and pep talks to Fubuki, strangely remind me of the Tick.

Add to that the quirky villains, who remind me of the creatures from Galaxians, who mutter the words Gula after everything they say. A stalking friend who is always looking for panty shots of Fubuki or the homage to video game icons like Ryu, Ken and Princess Toadstool, and you have a series that seems to actually aim at not taking itself too seriously, by poking fun at the geek in all of us who enjoy anime and video games just a little too much. You really need an offbeat sense of humor to really enjoy this story.

I also liked the nods to video games played like Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers, Donkey Kong and more. There is a nice message stuck in there about the attack on video games, because of violence. The mystery of Mr. Mystery and the evil behind Fubuki’s arch nemesis are interesting, too and there are a ton of extras like a bonus six-minute episode featuring the girls in bikinis, art gallery, music videos and more to keep the anime lover busy. Oh, and for you sick fffffreaks, there is a lot of bouncy, bubbly cleavage and panty shots.

Yes, I’m still shaking my head, but Arcade Gamer Fubuki made an impact and should not be ignored, if not for the sheer stupidity of it all. Let you mind go, pop the quarters in and just play along.
