Felix Laband: 4/4 Down The Stairs Cover - COPYRIGHT AFRICAN DOPE RECORDS ALL RIGHTS RESERVED     Okay, looking at the cover of this CD, I was really uncertain as to whether I’d want to pop this into the player. A bear’s head attached to a fishnet stocking, teddy-clad lady holding one of her legs straight up - yikes! Inside isn’t much better – a bunch of naked women with animal heads replacing their own. I started wondering if this guy wasn’t a little into bestiality, but that’s neither here nor there.

But, as they say, you should never judge a book by its cover, and so I popped the CD in and prepared for the worst. Now the first track was a little puzzling. Had I not looked up other reviews about the CD, I would have been quite shocked. I’m cultured, but apparently not cultured enough. See, the first track is entitled Jesus at the Table and features a child speaking in another language. The problem I had was that it sounded like the kid kept talking about a donkey. My research, however, has taught me that in fact, the child is speaking in Afrikaans (a language native to South Africa). She’s actually saying ‘thank you’ in Afrikaans – doh!

As for the rest of the tracks on the CD, I must confess that this style of music is really not my cup of tea. But, being an avid movie fan as well, and watching some European movies and programming, I can guess that this CD would go over rather well in Europe. There is definitely talent to be found here. I can easily see Wild Dog being played as background for a movie, but the ending is a tad risqué. The only vocals in the track discusses the art of oral sex – not exactly a CD to buy for your child. It should definitely come with a parental advisory sticker.

But I have to say that my favorite track is one that comes at the very end of the CD called Genaro Plays. Genaro Plays, which is about one minute long. If you’re patient, toward the end of the CD is a bit of vocals perfectly performed by an unnamed female artist. The song, chanted ‘60’s Bohemian-style, tells the tragic tale of Melanie, a student seeking to escape the world through drugs and music-a dose of harsh reality to end a CD full of dreamy electronic beats.

I won’t say I disliked this CD. I’m just not a fan of this type of music. But fans of electronica and psychedelic funk might find 4/4 Down the Stairs quite enjoyable.
