Series:

• Serial Experiments Lain- In America, sci-fi fans have the X-Files to totally confuse us. In Japan, sci-fi anime fans have the anime series entitled Lain. From the first episode, called Wired, I knew I was in for a strange ride. So far, I have not been disappointed.
  
  The premise of the show is that we are all connected by the wired world (or Internet); which is all around us. The computer age has finally taken over-and the few that are aware of this merging of worlds want the ability to control it. Continue reading Serial Experiments Lain



• Petshop of Horrors- I will tell you about the first story so that you catch on to what I am talking about. A couple has lost their daughter to a drug overdose. They go to see the pet shop owner who brings them to a rabbit. One minute, the rabbit looks like what it is, and the next, it looks like their dead daughter. Even the cop assigned to bust this pet shop, which is conveniently tied to various deaths, believes the couple just walked out with their child, and not a rabbit at all. He soon learns different.
  
  The parents are sworn to follow three rules: 1. They can't show their pet to anyone. 2. They have to burn incense all the time and they have to keep it burning at all costs. 3. They can not feed their pet anything, but vegetables and water, no matter how many times their pet pleads for anything else. If you break the contract, you are in serious trouble. • Perfect Blue- Perfect Blue, from Manga Entertainment, is directed by up and coming director, Satoshi Kon. It is the story of a pop icon named Mima Kirigoe who leaves her girl group, Cham, to explore new opportunities in the world of acting and a solo singing career. Her fans become distraught when Mima's first television role includes a scene where she is raped. To complicate matters, a web page dedicated to her, knows a little too much and now Mima must deal with a crazed stalker, killing people who "forced" her to do things (pose nude, act out a rape scene, leave the Cham) the stalker feels was not right for Mima. And as the media, the fame, and success of Mima's career spiral upward, Mima gets caught up in the tabliod and Internet rumors and begins to unravel, not knowing which part of her life is real and which is just an act.
