I have been a wrestling fan since I was five, and for 21 years I have often found myself saying: “I can write these stories. That shouldn’t have happened. This guy should have this gimmick. Why not try this angle?” Like me, thousands of people have thought the same way and those people have an outlet for their ideas.
For several years, Wrestling E-Feds have become all the rage. If you can’t get into the business end of wrestling and can’t take the wear and tear your body would receive in the ring, go to your computer, create a wrestler and have him compete in a fantasy wrestling league. Similar to a role playing game (RPG), borrowing heavily from the fan fiction scene, E-Feds are an exciting way to have your say in the wrestling world.
The Extreme International Wrestling E-Fed (EIW) is a fairly new federation located at http://eiwefed.cjb.net. Each E-Fed has different rules. Some roll the dice to determine winners and some use wrestling trivia, but EIW uses role playing techniques. The more original your character and the better role playing skills you have (i.e. the better stories and promos you can write) the more people will want to view your posts and the better chance you have of winning weekly Friday shows and monthly PPV extravaganzas.
The intriguing feature of EIW is the fact that all wrestlers are original creations by those who join the site. While other federations allow people to use the Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin or any of the hundreds other pre-established stars, EIW forces people to be a little more creative with their ideas. They have to come up with their own height, weight, hometown, entrance music, set of catchphrases and mannerisms. It all comes from people’s imagination and makes the stories that much more original.
Joining EIW is EASY! Just complete a single or tag-team application form on the site. Those whose applications are accepted MUST post at least once per week to give the owners of the site enough knowledge about your character to know how he would fair in his or her match. Anyone can play as long as you accept and continue posting messages. Ten days of unapproved inactivity results in a release from the company and just like a real wrestling federation, when your contract is terminated, EIW has the right to retain your character and do with it however they please for two weeks after your play is suspended.
However, there should not be a reason to leave. This is an opportunity to test out your writing skills and wrestling knowledge while having fun-without having Vince MacMahon make you kiss his ass. The better your writing is, the better your wrestler will do when battling rivals and winning championships. After all, it is about the gold. You want to create a wrestler that the owners will want to win, because in the end, all results are final so you may be frustrated about a loss, but that just adds to the realism of it all. It will make you want to improve that much more.
The EIW is offering an exciting opportunity to fans. Using user friendly and common knowledge communications applications like message boards and the ever growing fan fiction scene , the webmasters put it all together with the hard core love of professional wrestling. Hey, if you can’t get a job in the WWE, turn a negative into a positive and take out that frustration in a virtual ring against an Internet foe. Join EIW today!
