Ooh, I hate to be cruel, but when I am tortured I get that way. It really takes a lot to bring out the jerk in me, OK, maybe not a lot. Somewhere in Time, Donny Osmond’s latest attempt to make cash off of his former persona, literally made me cringe. Face it Donny, you may be on the Pyramid, but stop believing your own hype. You are not as good as the people who sang these songs and you never will be.

The best way to describe Somewhere in Time is that god-awful Pepsi commercial with Osmond as one of the Osbournes. For the sake of the angels in heaven, what made the man think he could remake Without You? Kelly Clarkson, a rank amateur, did a better job and put more feeling into this song than the dry Osmond. Osmond also ruined I Can’t Go For That, a song I remember as being upbeat, until the Osmond production machine made it his own, and slowed the track down and ruined all of its flavor and catchiness.

To me, you don’t remake a song unless you can make it better. Notice that Don McLean’s American Pie isn’t on Madonna’s Greatest Hits Collection. Osmond’s futile attempts at recreating classics just don’t cut the mustard. The songs are were no where as good as the originals. His attempts really took a turn for the worse with All Out of Love, which was nowhere as passionate as the original. The delivery was all off!

However, I will give one to Osmond, he does a good job with Could It Be I’m Falling in Love, and that is because the chorus was not destroyed. OK, he also did a decent job with Don’t Dream it’s Over. The kicker of course was the bonus track, which I will not mention because it just should have stayed hidden.

Basically, this was below standard? Didn’t you catch American Idol-song selection is KEY! Pick something that you can sing, so you can be a winner too! Otherwise just stick to hosting game shows. But if you do want this CD pick up in a bargain bin, don’t spend the whole $15.00 bucks! You worked hard for that money you know!
