Hunter: The Reckoning is much like the classic arcade games X-Men and Fighting Force, that utilized four players to create the ultimate gaming experience for friends. And like those titles Hunter: The Reckoning kicked ass!
Based on the White Wolf RPG, in Hunter: The Reckoningh you control one of four characters (play alone or with up to three friends) who must all try to stop a rampage of the dead in what was once the peaceful town of Ashcroft. After witnessing an execution gone wrong, the dead prisoners of Ashcroft prison rise again in probably the most effective means of Civil Disobedience. However, four brave citizens of Ashcroft, Deuce Wyatt, Samantha Alexander, Father Esteban Cortez and Kassandra Cheyung (nice diversity) manage to close the place and keep the town safe. Later, the energy of the ravers holding a party in the abandoned prison, wake the dead once more, giving them enough victims to sustain them on their quest to overtake the world. The four heroes must unite once more to make them all rest, but not necessarily in peace.
Presentation 9 out of 10: This game looks great! Four players working together in a beautifully, creepy looking world with lots and lots of bad guys, challenges and strategies make this game lots of fun for all. This is nothing like Resident Evil, the approach used in Hunter mixes Night of the Living Dead with Fighting Force. One thing for sure this game would make a great movie.
Graphics: 10 out of 10: I give it a 10 for detail. With dozens of characters on the screen at one time, the developers really paid attention to creating the most 3D world with the current technology. With all of the head spinning action in this game, they didn't have to concentrate on the small details, but by doing so, they gave me another reason to play again and again to catch it all.
Sound: 8 out of 10: Overall, really good beats to slice and dice to. I was pumped throughout the whole game.
Gameplay: 9 out of 10: There are all sorts of great weapons to use and even magical powers for each characters. And believe me you will need them, with the changing game play from level to level, you'll need to be powerful and fast. Whether it is ultra-fast vampires, zombies with guns, gargoyles or mutant rats there is just hours of violence to choose from. The game even varies in difficulty, giving you some breathers right before adding a new element of terror that has you cursing out loud and hooting and hollering with your friends.
Hunter: The Reckoning is fun to play, especially with four players. It is great to regain the buddy banter that comes with kicking so much ass! However beware, like in the army, you are as fast as your slowest man and if someone runs to the screen to pick up a gun, you can't advance until they catch up. However, this is my only complaint, when you bring all the positives together, this glich does not matter.
Overall: Buy this game! It beats those party games and there is even a mutated teddy bear to kill!
