So what can one say about the new Power Rangers-Lightspeed Rescue from THQ. I mean, I have always hated the Power Rangers and looked at them as a cheap knockoff of Voltron. I also assumed that by now, the Power Rangers would have disappeared, but here they are, still clinging on and coming out with new games, too. Even stranger, this game is kind of fun.
Popping the game into the system, I was greeted with a subliminal message telling me to watch Fox Kids, which is about the only tacky thing about this game. Everything else is pretty good and offers something for everybody.
Your mission is to play as all five Rangers, separately, of course, in several missions. These missions take place over various locations like the subway and in the city. You choose your Ranger, each has several aspects that makes them more appealing than the others. You guide your Ranger into one location, to first save as many people as you can in a given time period. You must overcome fire obstacles, falling rocks, blocked passageways, etc, while picking up various objects to make your mission easier. After saving as many people as possible, you must then fight evil aliens and kill as many of them as you can in a given period, helping to make the planet a safer place to live. Finally, you must form the big Megazord and beat an evil creature looking to end the Power Rangers' existence.
You must accomplish these feats in several areas, each one getting harder than the last, of course, in order to win the game. SO far, I am finding this game to be fun, rather interesting, and surprisingly challenging, considering how cheesy the show is. It is perfectly suited for the Gameboy Color and would make an excellent addition to your library.
Badseed's Bottomline: 3 ½ out of 5. I put off playing this game for a while, but once I did, this game kept me from freaking out on a five-hour plane ride. Still, I think this license is dying out and may not be picked up by those who have forgotten who the Power Rangers are. I have a feeling Saban, FOX and THQ won't let us.
