There is a new Goku in town. No, this isn't another overdone Dragon Ball Z piece. While this Goku also carries an extending stick, he doesn't need a group of friends to help him in battle. This bad ass does it on his own; with a cybernetic eye that links to every computer around the world and a sharp, witty sense of humor.
Figuratively speaking, this bad mamma-jamma can launch all the nuclear weapons in the world and destroy every living being on it. Instead, this ex-cop turned private investigator decides to protect us. Thank goodness for us!
In this film, entitled, Goku II: Midnight Eye, our new hero is contracted by a young woman named Yoshiko. She is looking for her brother, Ryu who has been put through extensive tests and experiments to be made into a super powered weapon against humanity. What occurs next is a mysterious adventure with a strange twist at the end. I mean strange.
Goku II is a terrific, exciting, action-packed adventure that leaves you awaiting another sequel. The dialogue is extremely witty and Goku is a very likable character. This anime is well written and beautifully drawn. Urban-Vision brings us another exciting hero in their long line of animes. I'm looking forward to more from Urban-Vision and Goku as well. Now, which Goku would win a battle against one another? Hmmm...
Who is the private hitman who gets all the chicks? Golgo 13. Who else were you expecting? This anime, The Professional: Golgo 13, is a classic among anime fans. Well, guess what. It is back and hitting shelves once again as we speak. Seemingly taking from American characters like James Bond and Shaft, Golgo 13 uses a lot of cool weapons and gets with all the girls enroute to his next kill. His demeanor and work ethic has struck a chord with fans, making this movie worthy of a re-release.
Golgo 13's real name is Duke Togo. He is the ultimate hitman as it appears that he has no heart whatsoever. Cold-blooded and lethal, Golgo is known throughout the world for his clean kills and the number of them he has racked up throughout the years. Many would love a piece of him, while others are too scared to go near him. One man, the father of one of Golgo's kills, will stop at nothing until he rids the world of this hitman.
Golgo is now the hunted and every kill he makes, someone is watching him, stalking him or attacking him. He is in a fight for his life and it's going to take more than one bullet, one kill to stop this madman.
Golgo 13 is a very intense action anime. There is a lot of nudity in this film and a lot of violence, but both are backed up with a sophisticated storyline, some excellent writing, animation and storytelling. A hit when it came out in 1983, The Professional is ready to attract a new breed of viewers.
You will not want to miss out on this wonderful anime. For years I have heard how good it was and now I finally got a chance to witness why it's a classic. Blood, sex, violence and a story to back it all up-what more can you ask for? The ending alone is reason enough to pick this film up. It will leave you asking questions, and wanting more. And there is more. Golgo 13: Queen Bee looks to be a very promising sequel and once I see it, I will pass on the good word. Until then, go get The Professional: Golgo 13 or I will order a hit on you.
