Coming straight on the heels of the explosive War of Attrition DVD, I was excited as ever to find out what would 
happen as FMW went to war with ECW in an explosive supercard that took place on May 5, 2000. I knew after finishing last month's DVD that I was going to be in for some explosive action as the storylines came to a halt in a Japanese supercard to end all supercards.
Masato Tanaka eliminated the threat of Fuyuki won the WEW World Title, but the fans were more on the side of Tanaka's friend Hayabusa, now known as H. H and Ganosuke, friends turned enemies, and now friends again, were tearing up the scene and Tanaka was forgotten, despite being the champion of the promotion.
ECW was invading FMW and Tanaka was defending his company, before having an explosive falling out with H and leaving for ECW America. ECW Japan started making waves, led by Fuyuki, who returned to rip apart FMW. Tanaka returned and lost his WEW title to Kuroda, a hot rising star that had been held back for far too long. Tanaka made a decision and ousted Fuyuki from ECW Japan and became the leader of the ECW contingent. The war was set and Tanaka was set to fight H at FMW's big extravaganza, Backdraft.
This DVD is pivotal in FMW history. It shows how FMW met its demise in 2002 by trying to copy the sports entertainment formula of Vince McMahon. Fans wanted hardcore action, but instead received gimmicks, hot women and wrestlers who had sex change operations. Hardcore elements remained, but the company lost focus and fans disappeared as well. The beginning of Backdraft sets the stage for some of the changes that led to the demise of FMW.
Ricky Fuji, an FMW mainstay was battling Crazy Boy, who was siding with the ECW contingency. Fuji came to the ring with a host of beauties, singing his own theme music, but then it was all down to business. Crazy Boy a quick, aerial wrestler dominated the match, keeping Fuji off balance with his aerial assault. Crazy Boy landed a Triple Moonsault from each rope, then took a chair to the top rope and landed one more vicious moonsault. However, Fuji grabbed a chair and threw it at Crazy Boy, before landing a very weak looking Superkick, followed by a Brainbuster (Suplex/Piledriver Combo) that won him the match.
Next up, porn star June Kusanagi battled Kaoruko for valet of Flying Kid Ichiari, who also happened to be the ref for the match. June looked good, but Kaoruko had nice braids and a Britney Spears schoolgirl outfit and even danced in the middle of the ring. However, the rest of the action sucked and the announcers didn't hide the fact that these two women didn't belong in the ring. At one point, the announcers who sounded more like members of the cast of Mystery Science 3000, said things like, "She can't even run the ropes," and "My grandmother can hit harder than that." When June used a figure four leglock, a comment was made that Nature Boy Buddy Rogers would be rolling in his grave if he saw this. Kaoruko won the match when she kicked Ichiari into June, leveling her and making for easy prey as Kaoruko scored the pin and became Ichiari's valet.
Finally, the three-ring circus came to an end, as Kyoko Inoue, Choco Ball Mukai and Kaori Nakayama took on Azusa Kudo, Emi Motokawa and Yuka Nakamura in a Six-Person Inter-Gender Match. This match isn't worth talking about, because it ruins the reputation of FMW, but it is my duty to. Choco Ball, a porn star wrestler like Val Venis, had a humiliating moment when Azusa, a wrestler who had a sex change operation landed on his crotch and started biting. At one point Inoue Airplane Spins Nakamura so hard, I think she landed in the fourth row. Choco Ball did the same to Nakamura lending some viciousness to the match, which ended when Inoue hit the freak with a hardcore Lariat Clothesline to get the pin and put me out of my misery.
