Listen to Robin Brennan at fboo.com
Lullabies for the Young at Heart is an interesting project. It is basically a compilation of various lullabies, both traditional and contemporary. Robin Brennan's beautiful voice, delivers all
of her songs as if she spoke for all mothers on Earth, when they looked into their babies eyes for the first time.
Lullabies for the Young at Heart contained twelve tracks, all tight musically and lyrically. My two favorite songs on the album were Hushabye and When You were Small, two songs with the potential for mainstream success. Hushabye is an interesting tune and is my favorite of the two. I have always wondered why women never tried the Bebop sound men of the 50s did so well. Robin granted my wish! She did such a superb job on this song. It actually brought tears to my eyes, as hearing it reminded me of the music played on the show I used to watch here in the NYC Metro area called The Magic Garden. Memories of just good times came rushing back. This song and the delivery were just magnificent!
This CD further validates my comments on Robin's ability, if I may be so bold but to quote myself , "Her (Robin) voice is refreshing yet contains a classic sound that has nearly been lost in radio hits". And if you don't believe me, then you must hear When You were Small. Robin composed this song, and it is just beautiful. It is about a mother speaking to her child as the child grows up. If you loved that song Butterfly Kisses, this is the female version of that song-but BETTER. I could just see the thousands of children dancing with their moms to this song at their weddings.
Overall while I cannot say exactly where this CD would fit in the marketplace, it does have a place. I really think that it is a nice CD and I will lend to the Pre-K 3 teacher of my school so that the children can nap to it. What I can say with confidence is that Lullabies for the Young at Heart is solid album.
