There was no need for this CD. A shopper is going to see this next to the Ali Soundtrack containing R. Kelly's World's Greatest and Alicia Keys and they are going to overlook its' sequel that has nothing going for it. Kelly and Keys' music beats anything on this pale comparison.
It's not that this CD is bad. Ali II uses some wonderful cultural music; some Spanish music, soul, R&B, African music and the Blues. However, I didn't feel Ali in this CD. Mighty Joe Young's As the Years Go Passing By and Salif Keira's Sanni Keyniba are very cool, but they aren't the hard hitting songs you would expect to play behind a movie about a hard hitting world champion. Even Lisa Gerrard's music, which I usually compliment, comes out as nonsensical whining and gibberish - I couldn't understand a single word uttered.
At a little over 40 minutes, it is certainly not worth buying when against the usual 70 minute CDs of the same price. Ali was a champ, but his movie and this version of the soundtrack are just chumps.
This CD is not that long either, which annoyed me. However, after listening to this CD, I felt very emotional. Rachel Portman put together some epic sounds filled with emotion, drama and heartfelt warmth, especially if you think about all the characters had to go through in this film.
Hart's War is not a war movie, like we are used to and the soundtrack conveys this. It is not intense, but very mellow and introspective. There are some moments of intrigue, but overall, this is a nicer soothing set of songs that I felt a lover of classical music could sit back and enjoy. I felt very content and tried to think of moments in the movie, trying to place myself in the role of each character. This is a CD that perfectly conveys the emotion of an army still trying to be an army inside enemy prison camps. I just wish the movie did better in the box office.
Finally, on its 20th Anniversary, fans of the groundbreaking movie Tron get their wish a soundtrack to the film complete with bonus tracks and the kick ass Only Solutions by Journey.
This soundtrack just rules. Tron takes place in a computer - videogame world, and this CD actually kind of sounds like a videogame soundtrack. It contains epic pieces played in a futuristic electronic manner. You can feel the vibe of the new worlds and the excitement of deadly videogames that have become all too real. The music conveys the urgency of taking control from the master computer to save the blue trimmed computer people.
The Light Sailor and Tower Music - Let Us Pray are great songs, but my favorite track was the Anthem for Keyboard solo. It is just a beautiful sounding song; breathtaking, yet sad in many ways. I don't know why. I do know that like the movie, the Tron soundtrack is a wonderful piece of media that is still a relevant work of art today. The future is now.
