Excellent. That is all I can say for this highly influenced classical, funk, electronic, jazz, Latin, country, hip hop, rock sound that perfectly fits with this phenomenal series. This album is not only a treat for the die-hard fan that knows a good soundtrack when they hear it, but for the non-fan who will certainly want a peek at the Trigun universe.
For those not familiar with the Trigun story, here is a brief primer. Trigun is the story of Vash the Stampede, a soft gentle and buffoonish man whose legend as a gun slinger precedes him. Everywhere he goes trouble follows causing one insurance company a lot of cash. So they send out two agents, Meryl Stryfe and Millie Derringer, to find and 'baby sit' the supposed outlaw and keep the places he frequents in one piece. As any good sales agents, they bring donuts as their peace offering, and it just so happens that Vash loves donuts hence the strange album title "Trigun Spicy Stewed Donut."
Of course one of my favorite tracks from the series happen to be tracks one and fifteen, which are the opening and closing themes, respectively, to the series. H.T. Funky, the first track, contains guitar, bass, and drums that let you know right away you are getting into something pretty damn awesome. While, Kaze-wa Mirai-ni Fuku (Wind Blows in the Future) is a mix of Middle Eastern music to fit with the desert theme that is prevalent throughout the series. I particularly like how the vocalist, despite the mellowness of the music, adds a rock edge to the song that brings it to another level.
The CD continues with this trend. The rough and tough American Western, Punk, Cyberworld of Trigun is conveyed non-stop throughout the fifteen track album. Each track gets funkier and funkier, taking the listener through various music genres. You will not stop tapping your toe or bobbing your head. Tsuneo Imahori is a pure genius. For the creators of this series to pick up such a talent proves that anime is a verifiable art form that is hiding a secret world of genius and artistic talent that in many cases rivals that of the real world.
