Resident Evil 2 Soundtrack

Distributed by: Tokyo Pop

By: Jon Minners

While I Cover From Resident Evil Soundtrack Copyright TokyoPopdidn't care much for the series of games, I must tip my hat off to the guys who put the music together. They really worked hard at bringing the horrors of the game from your television set to your compact disc player. From the opening of the CD to the very end, there is a theatrical feel to it all that tells a story of fear, intensity and horror.

There is a lot of operatic stuff on this CD, making for some very eerie music. It's kind of freaky, when you suddenly hear a woman's operatic voice in the song Berceuse, because there is so much vocal silence throughout the CD. This voice lends to that whole eerie tone that never plays itself out throughout the entire CD. The Opening: Claire Version, for instance, is a really kick ass track filled with action, until out of nowhere, a silence suddenly pulls you into a mellow mood.

Slow drum rolls, fast, soft, pianos, and eerie thunder rolls make for some great music, especially during this Halloween season. And what horror CD would be complete without some organ music to scare the crap out of you? Clutch those covers tight and try to close your eyes while listening to State of Emergency, a nail-biting, intense ride that will keep your eyes wide open in anticipation of what's to come. You know some action-packed scenes were taking place as this music played on. You don't need words here to invoke feelings of terror.

My favorite tracks were The Theme of Nosferatu with its dark melodic music, scary sounds, lots of beats and a good use of symbols and the epic sound that comes in the song, To Antarctica. Whenever they show the beautiful landscape of another country, continent of other place, they always play that cool epic sound to express the beauty of it all. I could only imagine in my head what was shown.

This CD is perfect for the Halloween season. Takeshi Miura composed a great piece of work and had to come back 7-8 months after the Dreamcast version to complete additional tracks for the PS2. What a dedicated man and Miura is proud of his work, and he should be after the exhausting effort he put into it. Hard work paid off and this soundtrack is one to have if you are into eerie sounds for the horror season or if you just simply love game soundtracks. This is the first one I have ever listened to, and I am looking forward to hearing more. Stay tuned.
