At thirty-four tracks and seventy-three minutes the soundtrack to the Vampire Princess Miyu is well worth the money. This was my first anime soundtrack and I loved it! I must have listened to this CD about three or four times during the workday. Soft and simple it, it is relaxing and eerie, cool and calm. Just like Miyu and her Shinma seeking comrades.
With music by Kanji Kawai, the person responsible for the soundtrack of the anime classic Ghost in the Shell, this primarily instrumental piece. The overall tone of the CD is gray, bordering light. The vocal tracks on the CD prove equally satisfying. All three were your atypical J-Pop tracks but with that dark edge. I particularly liked the use of the Shinobue on several of the tracks.
Each track is an extended version of the background music heard throughout the TV series. The songs are sad but hopeful and perfectly catch the theme of the eternal thirteen-year-old that looks so innocent but is eternally defiled.
Aans and newbies to the Vampire Princess Cult will love this extension to this classic series. I strongly encourage you to go out and pick up this piece of art.
