Random Acts of Surfing

NinjaTurtles.com

Reviewed by: Jon Minners

In my search for information on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the Animation Archives, I came across their official website. I was surprised to see that this old cartoon still had an official site, but I needn't look any further for all the information on our beloved Turtles that took the world by storm not that many years ago.

This site is really cool. The front page is green, needless to say and contains a whole lot of links to some wonderful info on Donatello, Michaelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo, Splinter and the rest of the cast that made the show such a big hit in the 80's and early 90's. Most notable of these links is the Blast from the Past section that allows readers to view previously unseen pictures of the Turtles, including new costumes and looks. There is also a cool link to Peter Laird's new creation, Planet Racers, which I am going to try to get a hold of in the near future. Looks like a promising new title, but more on that later, because this is all about Turtle Power.

Along the side of the page, there are links to a wide assortment of things, including an art gallery, fan art, an art contest, frequently asked questions, banners, wallpapers, letters, sound bites and a TMNT catalog. There is even a profile page that gives you the lowdown on every one of your favorite characters, including Shredder, Krang, April O'Neal, and even Rocksteady and Bebop. The cool part about this section is that the profiles are shown as if the actual character himself wrote them. KC Jones talks about how hard it is to keep up with the Turtles as he gets up there in age. That is just a unique approach at depicting fantasy characters. It makes them seem more real and you start to appreciate them more.

Continuing on that aspect, there is a page dedicated to Splinter that allows him to share some words of wisdom with all us Turtles fans. We can all learn from a rat, can't we? He has been in the game for awhile. Speaking of experience, the Turtles themselves have been all over the place. They have seen it all from comics, video games and animation to movies, music and toys. There is just so much out there with the Turtles in it, that it is hard for me to believe that even the best fan have every single item with the pizza-eating sewer dwellers in it. This site gives everyone a chance to make his or her collection complete. There are links to information on the movies, comics, video games and television shows all on this page. These links contain titles, pictures and synopsis of every single issue, episode or movie with the turtles, so you get to really see everything they went to and learn about what you may have missed in your collections. There are pictures of the toys and there is even a section that showcases a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle comic strip. I didn't even know one existed.

The site is also a lot of fun with a cool online memory game to play, and some awesome sound bites to download from the series. You can also pick up some cool wallpaper and combine everything together to create some killer desktop themes for your home computer. The best part of it all is that the creators go out of their way to discuss the future of the Turtles. The fan forum allows them to interact with the fans and let them know what's coming up next.

I love this page. It is nicely laid out. You get the feel of the show as you surf through the pages and it keeps the story alive as we wait for new projects to come out. This site really keeps the fans in mind. Going to NinjaTurtles.com was a real enjoyable Random Act of Surfing. Cowabunga!
