     Several
months back, I reviewed an awesome book entitled The Fix: Fix in Overtime, by Tony DiGerolamo, published by Padwolf Publishing. The Fix was an unusual way to promote a comic book series. The novel/comic book was a mixture of sequential and literary genius that made way for a unique and innovative comic book series that will surely become a mainstream hit.
South Jersey Rebellion Productions is the distributor of the upcoming 32-page black and white series, which retains the name of the original comic/novel. The Fix comic, like the novel is a great read, full of wit, parodies and pop cultural references that people can relate to. The black and white nature of the comic really brings a certain realism to the characters. There is just some awesome detail here without the color that often gets in the way of real art.
The Fix is about, Fix, the worst detective on God's green Earth, who just seems to have some great luck. But it also helps that Fix has fallen victim to a mysterious substance that has given him the power to relive time and solve cases. Fix also gets help along the way from his beautiful girlfriend, Mindy, a pal named Sven, who happens to be the Son of Thor and Smitty, a sarcastic alien that drinks too much. So, it is no surprise why this motley group of people get into some of the strangest predicaments you can imagine.
The very first story, What Happened to the 45, just kicked ass. Fix is in his dump of a car when a vampire attacks him. Suddenly, a buff (get it) vampire slayer saves the day. However, before she gets rid of the bloodsucker, it takes a bite into Fix's car. Strangely, all damages on the car heal themselves. This gives Fix some great ideas on how to make money. Fix decides to take revenge on people's cars and enjoy just another weird and wacky aspect of his life. But all the good life comes to an end when he suddenly realizes the car has a mind of its own and is infecting other cars, looking to create an army of vehicles that will take over the world. Strange? Yes. Cool? Damn right. This comic book displayed some killer originality right from the beginning with great references to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Speed Racer and songs from today.
The second issue doesn't disappoint with a quirky story about the old west, set in an alternate universe where gun slinging comes second to mind slinging. Yep, these cowboys use telekinetic powers to shoot a gun. They use magical crystals that give them awesome power, and the most powerful mind slinger can only be beaten by a man without a brain. That man, of course, is Fix. This story is just plain weird, but funny. Check out the side effects that mysterious goo gives Fix in this issue. The series is definitely off to a quick start and I can't wait to see what happens next.
I loved The Fix novel and I love the comic book just as much. I think the cast of characters are cool, the dialogue is awesome and the writing is superb. I am really into the originality if it all. This is a must have series. Go to South Jersey Rebellion Productions and get your fix today.
